‘Cynical’ is the latest track from Chinese-American artist Emei, who has been making waves in the UK this year. It’s a vibrant statement of a track, with melodic vocals soaring above unique, transformative beats to craft a razor-sharp piece of alt-pop. On the music video, created in collaboration with Aser Santos, Emei says: “The moment I wrote this song, I knew it was my title track and I knew it needed a dramatic and ridiculous music video. The song has always been my favorite to play live so of course, a moshpit was a must. We then landed on an aesthetic inspired by Tim Burton and this video became everything I’ve wanted and more.”  Emei’s Cynical EP drops this summer. -Dan Peeke.
